The film opened on 11 December in New Zealand. Warner Bros. will distribute the film on 12 December 2014 in the United Kingdom, 17 December 2014 in the United States and 26 December 2014 in Australia. The film's première was held in London at Leicester Square on 1 December 2014.
The final Hobbit movie started really strong in its international launch with $11.3 million in 11 markets on Wednesday.
Warner Bros. reported that the new Hobbit Movie has grossed more than the previous two films with first-place finishes in all markets. It was the biggest opening day of the year in Germany, Belgium, Holland, all four Scandinavian territories and Switzerland.
"Five Armies" is opening Thursday in 17 territories, including Russia, Brazil, Mexico and New Zealand, and eight more markets Friday, including the U.K. Japan opens Saturday, lifting the total screen count to 14,000. It opens domestically Dec. 17.
Along with the U.S., South Korea, Italy and Spain open on the Dec. 17 weekend and China opens on Jan. 23.
MTV reported that reviews for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies have been "generally positive" with critics praising the film "for its energy, shorter running time and satisfying closure.
The film stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, Benedict Cumberbatch & Orlando Bloom.
